Boiler & Roof Safety Regulations Uncategorized 22.12.2022 At Aspiration Blinds, we take Gas Safety very seriously, which is why in this guide, we will be explaining the boiler and roof safety regulations in regards to flues within carports and closed verandas. If you currently have a carport, awning or veranda which can be closed and are looking to have a new gas flue installed in your property- or if you are planning to have a new veranda installed above an existing gas flue- it is essential to consider the following information. What are the Current Gas Regulations and Recommendations For Car Ports? Many boiler manufacturers, including big-name brands such as Worcester Bosch, have issued statements in regards to the fitting of flues under carports and verandas which can be closed. Although there is no official regulation in place against it, it is their recommendation that flues should not be fitted under car ports or verandas which can be closed. This is because a build up of flue gases could occur, including extremely harmful gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), which can be fatal and can often go undetected. It is also worth noting that carbon monoxide is a highly flammable gas, which could result in serious consequences should a car engine be started within a carport that has a buildup of CO. That’s why many boiler manufacturers strongly recommend you try to find an alternative location for your flue. However, where this is not possible, guidance states if a modern condensing boiler flue is fitted under a carport, then the flue should be fitted a minimum of 200mm below the roof. Similarly, if there was a flue coming out of the wall above a carport roof then it would need to be a minimum of 300mm above the roof. It is also important that the carport or veranda has a minimum of two open sides. Please note – The above information is for guidance and all boiler manufacturers may have differing minimum distances regards their own flues, so it is best to check the specific boiler manufacturers instructions or seek advice/survey from a Gas Safe registered engineer.
