Going for Gold

External screens are becoming more and more popular in the UK in both domestic and commercial premises and Aspiration blinds have positioned themselves at the forefront of this market.

External roller screens are predominantly used to protect client or public from winds and cold within outdoor area to create a warm dry place allowing use in more adverse weather conditions and prolonging the use of the area into the more unpredictable winter months.

We were recently approached by ISG PLC, to come up with a solution to help shelter coffee pods to be erected during the Queen Elizabeth Olympic park. (http://www.queenelizabetholympicpark.co.uk/)

The request was to provide strong wind proof screens to provide much needed shelter from the winds in these exposed open aspects pods. They wanted the screens to be retract when not required and disappears from view, not only the fabric but also the cassette box and guides to be hidden when not in use. Working closely with the architect and system designers at Belgium based screen manufacturer Renson we managed to offer the perfect solution.

Utilising the Fixscreen system, it offered both the sizes and strength required for the project, as well as the design to allow us to hide both the guides and the cassette of the system within the structure and cladding of the building. The guides and cassette were installed in such away that we are able to access both guides and roller cassette for maintenance without having to fully remove the screen itself.

The screen itself offers an ingenious zip system securely fastened to the edge of the screen which then is permanently held in the hidden side guides of the system making the screen wind resistant in every position.

As well as offering protection from the wind the fabric used in the screen is excellent for reducing solar gain, glare and even acting as protection from insects, in this instance we added clear pvc windows to the cover to help retain the views of the park.

The project was delivered on time and on budget, much to the delight of the main contractor and public alike as they enjoyed the park and its facilities.
